Empowering Women Through Fashion
Hi ladies,
So here goes, my first ever blog! Let me start off by telling you all a little bit about myself. I am a busy mum to 3 beautiful children who are my absolute world and wife to an amazing, supportive husband, without whom, fulfilling this dream would just not be possible.
When I look back at my younger years, the signs were all there, I have always had a real love for fashion and it has always played such a big part in my life but I never saw it as a career. When my 2nd child started school, it just hit me, I had all this new free time on my hands and now finally in my 30’s (where life makes a whole lot more sense) I decided to follow my dream and turn my passion into a career.
I signed up to Women in Business NI and enrolled on a number of different workshops with them. This was the most positive experience for me in years as these women didn’t look at me as a mammy, they looked at me as a potential business woman and this gave me the drive I needed to pursue my dream and complete a personal styling course.
I trained in Cork with the fabulous Joan Cashman from the Colour and Image Academy and I knew after the first day, finally at the age of 33, that I had found my passion and this is what I wanted to do.
For me, personal styling is so much more than dressing women and giving them advise, it is all about empowering them through fashion.
Let’s face it, we as women can be very hard on each other but no woman is a bigger critic than the woman that lives inside each and every one of us. We give ourselves such a hard time, full of self-doubt in everything we do and in particular, the way we look. We constantly compare ourselves to others and pick out all of our ‘worst bits’ instead of concentrating on our ‘best bits’ and let me tell you, even if you have to dig deep, we ALL have ‘best bits’.
I once read a quote that stuck with me, ‘sex appeal is 50% of what you have got and 50% of what people think you have got’. My job as a personal stylist is firstly, to make you realise and appreciate the 50% that you have already got and to dress around the other 50% using your personality, body shape and most importantly, making you feel 100% confident again in the way you look.
My work and fashion blog have not only gained me the wonderful support and appreciation of my followers and clients but has also provided me with a front row seat on women's attitude to fashion, their understanding of style and their relationship with their clothes which is where Laura Jane The Label was born.
I knew I wanted to design a collection of clothing that didn't change every season. I also knew I wanted to be able to provide those items of clothing that were constantly so hard to find on the high street, so I worked closely with my designer Sandra to design Simple, every day pieces with a twist.
Every piece in the collection has been designed from scratch with every one of you in mind. I want you to get value for your money, I want you to get as much wear out of your wardrobe all year round but most importantly, I want you to stand in front of the mirror and love the reflection you see when you are wearing my designs.
So here is what you can expect from my social media and blog posts:
- Empowering women to feel good about themselves every day, so a few feel good quotes
- For the mammy’s out there, keeping them entertained and inspired through fashion as I know being a mammy is one of the hardest job in the world and very easy to forget about ourselves
- Happy Mammy = Happy Family, we have the control
- Top tips on all things fashion, latest trends and most importantly, how to complete an entire outfit and make the best out of your wardrobe
- Always alerting you to the latest sales as I’m a sucker for a bargain
- The whole purpose of this is to find out what you would like to see on my page. It could be as simple as every day style tips for the school run and how to dress nice without being uncomfortable
And lastly what NOT to expect from my blog posts:
- I am not here to judge or criticise other women on their fashion choices so yes, I will be asking your thoughts on certain looks, but everyone has their own unique style and who are we to say whether it is right or wrong, surely if they feel great in it then that is all that matters?
- I want my page to be a happy place where we are all sharing our opinions and style tips and not striping women apart and pointing out their flaws, as I mentioned earlier, there is no bigger critic than the woman within us all, so with that in mind, be kind, we all have feelings (myself included).
Thank you for taking the time to follow my blog and I look forward to having you all on board with me throughout this journey,
Love Always,
Laura xx
